Our Vision

The term “third space” was coined by sociologist Ray Odenburg in 1989 to describe places outside of the home (the first place) and the workplace (the second place) where people gather and connect.

Third places build community by being accessible and welcoming to a wide swath of people in a convenient location.

We are fortunate to live in an area with a variety of third spaces - libraries, coffee shops & restaurants, the YMCA, exercise studios, and private clubs and organizations.

Rose City Mahjong Lounge endeavors to be a new third space in our community -

for those who already love the game,

for those who are learning the game,

and for those who are curious.
